Metrics explained: how DentTest calculates your performance

Question Bank Metrics

These metrics appear on the Question Bank page and track your overall progress.

Correct Answers

The total number of questions you have answered correctly on your first attempt. If you get a question wrong and then answer it correctly later, it does not count towards this metric.

Questions Attempted

The total number of unique questions you have attempted at least once. Each question is counted only once, regardless of how many times you've answered it.

Accuracy

Your first-attempt accuracy rate, calculated as:

Accuracy = (Correct First Attempts ÷ Total Questions Attempted) × 100%

Example: If you've attempted 100 questions and got 75 correct on your first try, your accuracy is 75%.

Percentile

Your ranking compared to all other DentTest users, based on first-attempt accuracy. A percentile of 80th means you perform better than 80% of all users. This is calculated by comparing your accuracy to the distribution of all user accuracies.

Exam Goal Metrics

When you set an exam date, these metrics help you stay on track to complete all questions before your exam.

Target (/d)

The number of new questions per day you need to complete to finish all selected subjects before your exam. Calculated as:

Target = Remaining Questions ÷ Days Until Exam

The goal is to finish the day before your exam, leaving the final day for review.

Current Pace (/d)

Your actual average of new questions completed per day, based on your 14-day moving average.

Green: Your pace exceeds the target, you're on track!
Yellow: Your pace is close but slightly below target
Red: Your pace is significantly below target

Today's Progress

The number of new questions you've completed today compared to your daily target. The progress bar fills as you work towards your goal.

Study Activity Metrics

Track your consistency and build sustainable study habits over time.

Current Streak

The number of consecutive days you've answered at least one question, counting from today (or yesterday if you haven't studied today yet). A streak is broken if you skip an entire day.

Longest Streak

Your best consecutive study streak within the past 365 days. Use this as a personal record to beat!

Days Learned

The percentage of days in the past year where you completed at least one question:

Days Learned = (Active Days ÷ 365) × 100%

Daily Average

The average number of questions you complete per active study day. Days where you didn't study are not included in this calculation.

Comparison Metrics

See how you compare with other students on the platform.

Overall Ranking

Your percentile rank among all DentTest users. Calculated by comparing your first-attempt accuracy to all other users who have attempted at least 10 questions.

University Ranking

Your percentile rank among users from your university only. This allows you to compare your performance with classmates studying the same curriculum.

Year of Study Ranking

Your percentile rank among users in the same year of study. This provides a fair comparison with peers at a similar stage of their education.

Performance Distribution Chart

A bar chart showing how all users are distributed across accuracy ranges (0-10%, 10-20%, etc.). Your position is highlighted to show where you stand.

Charts & Visualisations

Visual representations of your performance data to help identify trends.

Performance Over Time

A line chart showing your daily accuracy over your selected timeframe. The chart includes:

Daily accuracy points: Your accuracy for each day
Trend line: A moving average that smooths out daily fluctuations to show your overall trajectory
Question volume: Bars showing how many questions you attempted each day

Subject Mastery Radar

A radar chart displaying your accuracy across all subjects you've attempted. This helps identify strong areas and topics that need more practice. Subjects with higher accuracy extend further from the center.

Activity Heatmap

A calendar-style grid showing your study activity over the past year:

Empty cells: No activity on that day
Light green: Low activity (1-5 questions)
Medium green: Moderate activity (6-15 questions)
Dark green: High activity (16+ questions)

University Comparison

A line chart comparing your daily performance against the average of all users from your university. This helps you see whether you're performing above or below your peers on any given day.

Accuracy Calculations

DentTest tracks two different accuracy metrics on the Performance page.

First Attempt Accuracy

The percentage of questions you answered correctly on your very first attempt. This is the primary metric used for rankings and comparisons, as it best reflects your knowledge without the benefit of having seen the correct answer.

Overall Accuracy

The percentage of questions you have ever answered correctly, including subsequent attempts after getting them wrong initially. This metric shows how many questions you've eventually mastered through practice.
