Accessibility statement

The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This is the standard referenced by UK public sector accessibility regulations and is widely used as a benchmark for educational websites.

Accessibility is assessed as part of our ongoing development rather than as a one-off audit, and fixes are shipped alongside normal feature work.

What should work

The following are supported across the site:

• Keyboard navigation through menus, dialogs, forms and the question bank, including keyboard shortcuts while answering questions.
• Screen reader support through semantic headings, landmarks and labelled controls.
• Visible focus indicators on interactive elements.
• Light and dark themes, plus an adjustable textbook font size that scales the whole page proportionally.
• Responsive layouts that work at 320px width and at 400% browser zoom.
• Text that is not conveyed by colour alone; status information also carries a label or icon.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following areas that may not yet fully meet AA:

• Some clinical images and radiographs do not yet have descriptive alternative text; we are adding descriptions as content is reviewed.
• Embedded interactive 3D models from third parties (used in a small number of textbook topics) may not be fully keyboard accessible.
• The interactive performance charts and the textbook graph view are visual by nature; the same figures are available in the accompanying tables and lists.
• Some complex tables in the textbook and question bank may be difficult to follow with a screen reader on narrow screens.

Reporting a problem

If you find something you cannot access, or you need content in a different format, please email us and describe the page and what went wrong. We aim to respond within five working days, and to fix accessibility problems as a priority.
